I feel semi-qualified to report in on this one.Ī problem with every one of them is that distorted tones aren't quite right. I also downloaded and tried the amplitube 3 demo for a few days. Rig, Line 6, and the plug that comes with Logic. I've got Amplitube 2, Amp Fender, as well as their other amp sim packages, etc., Waves GTR3, extensively used NI Gtr.

The rest of the Cakewalk software is somewhat redundant if you'll be using Garage Band (Sonar is multi-track recording software). Cakewalk Guitar Tracks bundles NI Guitar Rig for simulation so if the GR demo is appealing then you'll like Guitar Tracks. I don't know that you'll be able to demo the Line6 amp sims as I believe it requires having their hardware. Be sure to read as much as you can about the interface included with each and make sure that its performance will meet your requirements and expectations (sound quality, resolution, latency, compatibility, etc. If you're in need of an audio interface then these two products may well be a better solution. I believe the Line6 and Cakewalk products are both hardware/software bundles.

Since both of these products are available in demo form it's definitely worth your time to download and trial both to at least decide for yourself which of these two fits your application best. Again, as mentioned above, it's nice to have access to Guitar Rig's effects as a DAW accessible plugin. This is splitting hairs though - both are excellent simulators IMO. I also find that Amplitube 'feels' a bit more like playing through an amp than Guitar Rig. I find Guitar Rig 4 requires being a bit more tweaking to get natural sounding tones out of it where Amplitube 2 is pretty close with many amp selections and their default cab/mic.

I prefer Amplitube 2 for a previously mentioned trait - the clean, verge-of-breakup, and mild overdrive sounds are more natural / organic sounding to my ears. I haven't really messed with the Line6 product mentioned but I have and use both Guitar Rig 4 and Amplitube 2 (guitar & bass bundle + Fender standalone).

Rock's not dead- yes, a lot of rock legends are getting older (RIP Glenn Frey, Lemmy, Bowie, Scott Weiland) but it's not going to get better unless we breathe new life into it.I'm a PC guy and I'm viewing these products from that perspective. People will always be willing to listen to good music they enjoy, and if we actually give new bands a chance we could potentially have a new generation of legends. In my opinion rock is definitely my genre, but every genre has good music and bad music. Nothing's going to change unless we give the new young bands a shot and actually pay attention to them. On the contrary, if rock is really not super popular at the moment, it's on us to be the next Zeppelin or Nirvana. Seeing as we're all still playing guitar and visiting this forum, it seems oxymoronic to say we're "done." Again, I do see your point and agree there's some truth to it, but let's not just mope around and stop doing what we love. You're right that electronic music is currently experiencing overwhelming popularity right now, but there's plenty of people still playing and learning guitar. Regarding Harsh's comment, I see what you mean but I think it's a little exaggerated. You might not use all the tools and components in it, but loads of people are still buying and using it. GR is in my opinion the best amp sim out there. Sure Kempers are great, but hardly anyone can actually afford them. It's fantastic software, and it's affordable. Yes, technology has changed and we've invented DAWs and plugins, but that's exactly why GR is still being used.

I get that GR hasn't been updated, but that doesn't mean it's totally dead. "Guitar Rig is no longer relevant," he writes as he visits the GR forum for presumably the millionth time.
